Smile Servicing: Your local, independent MOT test centre
Our MOT test is priced at an industry-leading £25 – for which you receive a flexible, while-you-wait appointment and testing undertaken with cutting edge equipment, by qualified, experienced experts. However, when booked with a major service you can get an MOT for only 1p! Your car will leave our MOT test centre with you having peace of mind that your vehicle is in as safe a condition as possible, and legally fit to be on UK roads.
Most MOT failures come down to simple issues that are quickly and cheaply rectifiable – this most often includes: faulty bulbs, too little tyre tread, and empty windscreen washer fluid. You can check out all that’s tested using the DVSA’s MOT inspection check list. Giving your car a quick visual inspection can help to ensure that your car passes first time around.
If you know that your vehicle requires work in order to pass its MOT, we’ll happily provide you with a quotation for this prior to the test, as well as offering advice on elements that you may not be so sure about.
You can’t drive your vehicle on the road if the MOT has expired and you could be prosecuted if caught. The only exception is if you’ve already booked a MOT and are driving your vehicle to the test centre. So, book an appointment with Smile Servicing in Portsmouth today by booking online 24/7. With Smile Servicing and Repairs, you can be sure of receiving a MOT that fully complies with all of the relevant legislation. We will be happy to give you a free, no obligation quotation for any work that is required to get your car through its MOT if it doesn’t pass on the first test.
Around 1.5 million vehicles fail their MOT due to simple things such as faulty bulbs, too little tyre tread, or even empty windscreen washer fluid bottles. It’s possible to anticipate most of these issues with a quick check of your car. If you do find any faults that you’re unable to easily rectify yourself, it’s advisable to notify us at Smile Servicing in advance so we can complete the work required before the test is carried out. Identifying the work before a MOT test will allow the problems to be rectified, so the car will be far more likely to pass its MOT test the first time around.
How often is an MOT test needed?
An MOT is needed every 12 months on vehicles that are older than three years. This test must be undertaken at a recognised MOT test centre (you can identify these by the MOT logo which should be displayed somewhere at the garage – which consists of three triangles on blue backing).
What should you do if your MOT has expired?
First of all, you should NOT drive freely around without an MOT – this is against the law. The only exception to this rule is where you have a pre-booked appointment for your MOT testing – the law permits you to drive to the MOT test centre and to the test centre only.
Thanks to modern engineering standards, passing your MOT should be a formality. But there is always a chance that something could have been damaged without you realising it. The official MOT test is a useful annual safety check. Smile Servicing are the ideal people you can trust to take care of the MOT testing and any repair work.
Once your vehicle has been tested you will receive the official VT20 MOT certificate. This is your receipt for the MOT test and shows the information that will be held on the MOT database. If your vehicle should require any recommended work this will be listed on the advisory notice of the VT32 document.
